Treasurer Volunteer Position

Title:   Treasurer



Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (“VASS”) is a registered non-profit that runs ski and snowboard programs for persons with a disability at Grouse, Seymour and Cypress Mountains. Our goal is to make the mountain experience accessible to all.


Our Treasurer is responsible for the financial oversight of the organization and works closely with our Accountant, Operations Director and Grant Writer.  The Treasurer is also a member of the Board of Directors.  VASS’ accountant reports into the Treasurer.  We’re looking for someone with an accounting designation who is a strategic thinker, highly organized, task oriented and passionate about helping VASS reach its short and long term goals.

Responsibilities and duties


  • With the accountant (paid employee), manage the organization’s cash flow
  • With the help of the accountant prepare and present a Treasurer’s report at each Board meeting
  • Assist with the organization’s fundraising and grant writing efforts
  • Ensure funds are spent in accordance with grant spending restrictions
  • Renew annual employment contracts for paid employees and work with the external payroll processing company to ensure payroll is paid and administered accurately
  • Review and sign off on VASS’ annual information return and file with the CRA
  • Review and sign off on the annual financial statements following the completion of the annual review
  • Assist the accountant with any technical accounting issues and questions throughout the year
  • Assist the accountant in taking the organization through the annual review
  • Pay suppliers on time
  • Prepare and present an annual budget to the Board of Directors
  • Help with the strategic direction of the organization



Qualifications and skills


  • Accounting Designation
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office and QuickBooks accounting software
  • Task oriented, strategic thinker and highly organized
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
