Para-alpine athletes from BC make their mark at the 2015 Canada Winter Games
Prince George (BC) – After a week of competition for alpine racers at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, Para-alpine athletes from BC have taken home three medals.
BC Para-alpine Ski Team (BCPAST) prospect Mel Pemble from Victoria took home Gold in Grand Slalom on Monday, February 16th, with a top finished of 1:19.49, 7 seconds ahead of second place winner Amanda Timm from Alberta. Team mate Chelaine McInroy from Armstrong BC, finished 5th. Pemble added a Silver Medal to her collection with a 2nd place finish at Wednesday’s Slalom race. McInroy finished 5th.
Team mate and fellow BCPAST prospect Mark Robertson pushed through a knee injury and skied to Silver during his GS race on Tuesday, February 17th.
Quesnel native Landon MCGauley was removed from competition late Monday night after sustaining a concussion during training earlier this week; a great disappointment for the BCPAST Development Team Athlete who was looking forward to competition in front of a home crowd.
“All of our athletes have risen to the challenges in front of them, and showed a true sense of sportsmanship and class. On top of an already great experience we get to bring medals back home! Every race day saw a BC Para-alpine athlete on the podium. Melissa Pemble won Gold in the GS and Silver in the Slalom, and Mark Robertson took home the Silver in GS” says John Newton, Team BC Para-alpine Head Coach.
